Take home message: we probably won’t die but let’s not kill others either.
Ok, I try my best to keep this short, I see many people around me are not as concerned as I believe they should be. I get it, I might be overdoing it myself but here’s what my mind is telling me on and on and I thought I should share it with you, not to start a panic but to hopefully make some super chill people uncomfortable with what they are doing.
The argument:
The argument is pretty simple, this virus is not dangerous for a vast majority of the people, they feel a bit shitty, and it’ll pass. What creeps me out is the fact that there’s still a mortality rate so yes people actually pass away and we know it already. When I was talking to people here in Germany, I realized that many of my friends think “not a big deal, we’re young and we’ll handle it” as I said it’s kinda true. Most of us will, but this doesn’t justify sneezing and coughing in public spaces like you are a fire extinguisher or something. You see, let me go full-blown pessimist:
Imagine you went to a club one night, having some fun, not a big deal, you took care of yourself by washing your hands after you came back, so we’re cool. The day after you go around touching stuff in the metro, bus, elevators, then get to your work and do the daily routine. For the next week, this is what you do, shaking hands, touching everything, drinking beer with friends and after a week, you feel a bit shitty, sure let’s stay home for a couple of days, you feel better, and life goes on. On the news, you see the infection rate and consequently, the mortality rate is increasing, you shake your head blaming people and the government. Life goes on for you, but it’s possible that because of what you did during that “incubation period” it’s not going well for some elderlies and not going anywhere for a few.
Think about what just happened there, for sure you are a perfectly moral person who doesn’t want to hurt even an insect and cries whenever someone dies in Game of Thrones but yeah my friend, you contributed to the fuckening. Depending on how careless you were, you might have been the one who spread around the virus that eventually killed one or two grannies. I will make it worse now in your imagination: we don’t want to strangle old and weak people with our own hands do we? ERGO, DON’T!
Ok, that was my argument. We’re talking about possibilities here. Yeah it’s possible that you went around smearing the virus on handles and the virus died by itself after a couple of hours but if there’s only %0.000001 chance that you were the one who made life harder for others, will you take it serious or what? I say at least let’s not do it intentionally; I know that there is a chance — no matter how low it is — that I end up hurting people. What I do is to take it seriously and just keep my shit together for a month or two. Don’t text and drive, don’t stab people, don’t put poison in people’s food, also don’t contribute the pandemic.
How to:
I’m sure you all know by this point, but in case you don’t and want to know, here it is:
I have some resource also on how serious it is, and you have no right to diffuse your responsibility comrade, it’s not others this time, it is you, and you must take your share of this cake. It’s time. Finally, we should be the adults that we are pretending to be.
This is what we are aiming for:
And this is more arguments on why we should do it as soon as possible:
That’s all folks, don’t die and don’t kill.
